Position: Executive Director
Job Location: Portland,
Oregon
Overview:
The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer responsible for
providing strategic leadership for the company by working with the Board of
Trustees and the Executive Management Team to establish long-range goals,
strategies, plans and policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
§
Establishes credibility throughout the organization and with the
Board as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges.
§
Provide leadership and management to ensure that the mission and
core values of the company are put into practice.
§
Negotiates and maintains agreements to provide indigent defense
services to Oregon,
including contracting, contract compliance, reporting and advocacy.
§
Assists the County
Directors in the
management of their offices focusing on quality legal services, staff
diversity, and fiscal responsibility.
§
Monitors the workload distribution throughout the office and
collaborates with the County
Directors to modify
staffing plans as neeed to insure the availability of quality staff and
continued morale.
§
Supervises all corporate team members; directing the dissemination
of corporate information through periodic management meetings.
§
Acts as the Chief spokesperson for the Metropolitan Public Defender
on issues of the Justice System, Public Safety and effective government
policy.
§
Works within the local, state and national criminal justice system
for the improvement of the Public Safety Systems.
§
Responds to challenges in the court system and system requirements
in a manner which promotes the interests of clients, staff and the
Metropolitan Public Defender.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
§
Minimum 5 years as an attorney admitted to practice in any state;
willingness to sit for the Oregon
Bar examination if not already a member of the Oregon Bar.
§
Knowledge of criminal law and procedure; knowledge of criminal
justice systems in general and Oregon’s
system specifically.
§
Prior management experience.
§
Ability to lead by example in the handling of work assignments, as
well as in the treatment of staff and others in the criminal justice
system.
§
Ability to supervise and provide an office leadership role,
including the ability to delegate tasks and authority, as appropriate.
§
Commitment to a teamwork-based management philosophy and a strong
work and responsibility ethic.
§
Ability to anticipate problems and to effectuate plans and
procedures to avoid them.
§
Ability to create an attitude of cooperation, professional growth
and unity within teams, sections and groups, recognizing the MPD multi-team
concept.
§
Ability to recognize and analyze personnel issues within the
framework of a collective bargaining agreement, policy manuals and the law.
§
Clear and effective communication skills.
§
A sense of humor.

Salary: Salary is dependent upon experience
