Position: Jr. Network Administrator

Overview: 
This position installs, configures and maintains the organization’s LAN server, workstations and peripherals as well as assisting end users in solving computer problems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

§         Maintenance of Multnomah and Washington county network systems including Microsoft NT servers, Microsoft 2003 servers, Cisco switches and routers, Linux/GNU based servers and TCP/IP local area networks.

§         Configuring workstations, set up and maintain user accounts, add software enhancements and address desktop hardware, software security, stability and performance and other configuration issues.

§         Create and implement workstation disk images.

§         Prepare and rollout new desktop and laptop computers.

§         Maintain computer peripherals, update IT asset database.

 

Other Job Functions:

 

§         Assist the Sr. Network Administrator in identifying system needs and developing training to enhance the skills of the staff.

§         Participate actively on committees and task forces, as requested.

§         Other duties, as assigned.

 

Communications:

 

§         Ability to deal effectively and courteously with staff, court personnel and clients over the telephone and in person.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

§         Knowledge of most common Microsoft software products.

§         Computer literate with capacity to learn new systems and programs.

§         Familiarity with common PC software and hardware.

§         Must be able to analyze and trouble shoot basic computer problems quickly and accurately.

§         Ability to organize and prioritize work, as well as work independently with little supervision.

§         Strong communication skills both oral and written.

§         Mechanically inclined.

 

Desirable Skills and Abilities:

 

§         Ability to deal confidently with highly sensitive information.

§         Flexibility to deal with changing methods and priorities; flexibility to do what is necessary to assist MPD in achieving its goals.

§         A commitment to the MPD philosophy of indigent defense.

§         Sense of humor.

 

Physical Environment / Working Conditions:

 

§         Requires the physical ability to operate and maintain computer equipment weighing up to 50lbs.

§         Pressure caused by frequent interruptions and regularly changing priorities.

§         Unusual shifts and on-call status occur on a periodic basis.
